Margret Eicher: nothing is real
(tapestries and watercolours)
January 28 – March 29, 2006
Opening reception for the artist: Friday, January 27, 2006 from 7 – 9pm
"nothing is real" will be the first exhibition of Margret Eicher`s latest body of work. The tapestries and watercolour-like prints are originally digital montages. Her final pictures are the result of a huge fund of material. In her compositions she confronts motifs of art history and actual news pictures presented by lifestylemagazines, advertising or from newspapers. With an ironic eye she quotes and combines the found imagery and creates a wide array of connections between past and present. The tapestries as a reference to the courtly society were shown in several exhibition series like "Society Dream" or "R:E:M rapid eye movement" (1999 - 2005). Margret Eicher utilizes the idea of the tapestry for the creation of a new art form. "nothig is real" both fortifies and devitalizes recent views focussing on the Information Society and the handling of information.
A fully illustrated book Margret Eicher "nothing is real" will accompany this exhibition.
